Links are cleaned of tracking when you copy them

Links shared by newsletters, ads and social apps carry tracking parameters that tell the site where you came from. When you copy a link, Maclip removes them before you paste, on the clipboard itself and in your history.

What gets removed

  • Every parameter starting with utm_, plus fbclid, gclid, msclkid, igshid, mc_eid and other well-known trackers.
  • si on YouTube, Spotify and Instagram share links. Other sites keep it, because some use it for real.
  • Parameters that make a link work, such as a search query, a video's start time or ref, are kept.
  • Only a copied link on its own is changed. Text that contains a link is left exactly as you copied it.

The cleaning happens on your Mac. Nothing is sent anywhere.
