2FA codes that erase themselves

A verification code is only useful for a minute or two, but it would sit in your history for good. Maclip recognises codes when you copy them, marks them, and erases them after a few minutes.

What counts as a code

  • A 6 to 8 digit number on its own, such as 482913, 482 913 or G-482913, copied from any app.
  • A 4 or 5 digit number, only when it is copied from Messages, Mail or a similar app.
  • A short message that says it is a code, such as “Your code is 482913”.
  • Dates like 20260929 are left alone.

Codes show a Code label and are treated as sensitive, so AI apps and Spotlight never see them. After 5 minutes by default, the clip is erased for good, and taken off the clipboard if nothing else has been copied since.

Change or turn it off

  1. Open Settings and choose the History tab.
  2. Under Auto-Delete, set Erase 2FA Codes to 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour, or Never.

Pin a code to keep it. An ordinary number that looks like a code, such as an order number, may be erased too. Pin it, or set the time to Never.
